NORFOLK, VA-- ODU seniors Chris Baker(Chesapeake, VA.) and Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) each drove in two runs, but the Monarchs lost the season finaleto Georgia State, 8-4 in 12 innings at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex on seniorday. This was the eighth extra inning game this season for ODU and second 12 inning contest. ODU finishes the season at 19-34/9-21) and Georgia State finishes at 24-31/14-16).

The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Mark Hogan doubledhome Brandon Williams and Caden Bailey. Designated hitter Joey Wood then singled home Hogan.

The Monarchs scored two in the third inning on a two-run triple by Chris Baker whichbrought home freshman outfielder Josh Eldridge (Lorton, VA.) and senior shortstop Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.).

The Panthers added a run in the seventh inning on Jonathan Kolowich's RBI single which plated Bailey for a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Joey Burney (Gloucester, VA.). With two outs,senior second baseman Brandon Shelton singled home pinchrunner DJ Engler (Glen Allen, VA.) and Baker to tie the game at 4-4.

Georgia State scored four runs in the 12th inning. With the bases loaded GSU catcher Landon Bennett was hit with a pitch to bring home the Mark Hogan with thego-ahead run. Kody Adams then singled home Jonathan Kolowich to make it 6-4 andshortstop Caden Bailey singled in both Adams and Anderson to complete the scoring.

ODU senior starter Ben Tomchick pitched nine innigs, striking out four and allowingfour runs, but only one run after the first inning. He finished his career with 278 career strikeouts which ranks him fourth all-time at ODU behind Justin Verlander (427), Kevin Bearse (325), and Dan Hudson (295).

Chris Baker led ODU with four hits in six at-bats and two runs batted in. He hit .429 with six RBI for the series. Freshman Josh Eldridge had two hits as didsophomore Joey Burney.

Senior shortstop Josh Wright finished his career with 37 career homers which tieshim with ODU Hall of Famer Tony Gsell ('99) for first all-time at ODU.

GSU had 18 hits on the day led by Caden Bailey, Brandon Willeams and Joey Wood eachwith three. Panther reliever Jake Dyer picked up the win in relief for the secondstraight game.

During a pre-game ceremony ODU honored its eight seniors; Josh Wright (SS), Josh Tutwiler (catcher), Chris Baker (RF/1b), Brandon Shelton (2b), Brent Frazier (3b), Ben Tomchick (RHP), CJ Huyett (RHP) and Phil McCarthy (RHP).
