Monarchs Play At No. 24 East Carolina Wednesday Night

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs travel to Greenville, NC to take on the24th ranked Pirates of East Carolina Wednesday night at 6 p.m.at Lewis Field/Clark-LeClair Stadium.Listen the game live tonight on Star1310 WGH AM radio with TedAlexander and Doug Ripley providing the play-by-play.

ECU (22-8-1) are led in hitting by Drew Reynolds at .370 followed by Tim Youngerat .359 and John Wooten at .331 with six homers. Corey THompson is hitting .322 withfour homers and a team best 26 RBI. The Pirates are scheduled to throw Deshorn Lake (0-1/6.75 ERA).

The two teams met earlier this season at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex with ECUwinning, 10-4.

Austin McGowan leads ODU with a .333 batting average, followed by senior catcherJosh Tutwiler at .323 with three homers and 18 RBI. Outfielder Kenny Belgraveis hitting .297. Senior shortstop Josh Wright leads the Monarchs in runs scoredwith 32 along with five homers, 18 RBI and 11 of 13 stolen bases. Senior firstbaseman Chris Baker is hitting .276 with six homers and a team best 27 RBI.

ODU is slated to start freshman Greg Tomchick (0-2/6.41). Thus far freshman DylanBratton leads the team with a 1.15 ERA in 11 appearances, while this week's CAA Pitcher of the Week senior Ben Tomchick has 45 strikeouts in 44.1 innings of workwhich ranks him second in the CAA.

ODU returns home for a three-game CAA series against defending league championJames Madison beginning Friday at 6 p.m. Friday's game will be "Flood The Bud Night." Admission will be 1.00 with free T-shirts to the first 200 fans as wellas inning give-a-ways which include Washington National tickets, gas and food gift cards and ODU memorabilia.
