ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Old Dominion University coed sailing team placed sixth at the prestigious Truxtun Umsted Interconference Team Regatta at the U.S. Naval Academy over the weekend.
Saturday provided sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60’s with solid early winds in the day allowing four races to be completed per division. A foggy and windless Sunday morning allowed for just two races to be completed in the afternoon for a total of six on the weekend.
The Monarchs posted their best finished in the A-Division race as junior skipper Dillon Paiva and sophomore crew Chloe Constants placed second with 26 points. Yale, who won the team event with 127 points, won the A-Division race with 19 points. ODU finished in sixth with 202 points.
Also competing for ODU in the B-Division race was senior skipper Gavin Rudolph and sophomore Jill Fattibene for races 1-5 and sophomore skipper Brady Stagg and senior crew Emily Reich for race 6. The combination finished in 12th with 56 points.
Junior Collin Leon placed 14th with 70 points in the C-Division race and sophomore Evan Hoffmann took seventh in the D-Division race with 50 points to round out the results for the Monarchs.
Also competing over the weekend were the Lady Monarchs at the St. Mary’s Women’s Intersection on Saturday. ODU finished 13th out of 18 teams with 204 points. Georgetown won the nine-race event with funky winds at temperatures into the 70’s on the St. Mary’s River.
Sophomore skipper Corina Radtke led ODU on the A-Division race along with junior crew Shannon Wilkins and senior Jordan Stock. That team placed 15th with 108 points. In the B-Division race, freshman skipper Andrea Luna paired with senior crew Jessica Milligan and Arianna Baker to place 11th with 96 points.
