NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs (2-1) host the Pirates of East Carolina (3-0) Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Bud Metheny BaseballComplex.
One of the traditional powers of Conference USA, ECU comes into the contest havingalready hit five homers and scored 24 runs. Corey Thompson is hitting .500 andTim Younger .667, while Jay Cannon, Phillip Clark and Jack Reinheimer each havefour runs knocked in. ECU is scheduled to throw righthander Joseph Hughes.
The Monarchs under first year head coach Chris Finwood took two of three from theTemple Owls last weekend.
Monarch secondbaseman Brandon Shelton is hitting .333 with three RBI, while catcherJosh Tutwiler is also hitting .333.
The Monarch pitching staff continues to be strong with a 3.10 ERA along with 27strikeouts in 29 innings of work. Brett Harris and Ben Tomchick didn't allow arun in their outings.
The Monarchs are scheduled to throw C.J. Huyett against the Pirates. Last year,ODU defeated the nationally ranked Pirates last year, 7-4 in Greenville behind theclutch hitting of Josh Wright and Chris Baker. Both knocked in two runs each for ODU. The contest scheduled for ODU was rained out.
The Monarchs host Rutgers this weekend in a three-game series beginning Friday at3 p.m.
