Monarchs Play At VCU In CAA Series This Weekend

The ODU Baseball Monarchs hit the road again for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against VCU. The games will be played at the Diamond beginningat 6 p.m. Friday evening.

The Rams coached by Paul Keyes (ODU'84) are 9-14 overall and 3-3 in the CAA aftertaking two of three from CAA co-leader Georgia State last weekend. Senior outfielder John Lenherr was the CAA Co-Player of the Week after hitting .615 last week. He currently leads the team and the CAA with a .456 batting average and has scored 23 times. Taylor Perkins leads the Rams in RBI with 20.

On the mound, VCU's top three are Seth Cutler-Voltz (1-2/6.03 ERA), Kyle Haynes (3-3/4.06 ERA) and David Benson (1-1/2.46 ERA). Benson has 39 strikeouts in 30.2 innings of work. The Rams are fourth in the CAA in hitting at .304 and sixth in pitching at 4.57.

Junior firstbaseman Chris Baker ranks third in the CAA in homers with six, tiedwith teammate Josh Wright. Wright is third in the CAA with 11 stolen bases.Baker is tied for the CAA lead with Towson's Chris Wychock at 12 and tied with Georgia State's Ryan Fleming with 29 RBI.

On the mound, freshman Dean Ali leads the CAA with a 1.71 ERA, while Kyle Hald (3-2)is thid at 2.51 and Ben Tomchick is tied for sixth at 3.13.

Hald continues to lead the CAA in strikeouts with 51 in 43 innings of work, whileTomchick is fifth with 36. Senior reliever Adam Wisniewski leads the CAA in appearances (15) and saves (6).

ODU leads the series, 83-54. The two squads did not play each other last year because of the CAA's split schedule.

Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Sunday's game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
