Three Homers And Tomchick's Pitching Leads ODU Over Tribe, 12-5

NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion junior righthander Joey Burney(Gloucester, VA.) slammed two homers and Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) one to lead the Monarchs to a 12-5 CAA victory over William and Mary Saturday afternoon.

Tomchick fanned eight, with two walks and three hits to improve his record to 3-1 and lower hisERA to 1.42 season.

ODU exploded with seven runs in the third inning as Josh Wright hit a two-run homer, Shawn Sizemore doubled home two runs andBurney completed the scoring with a three-run homer. Burneyalso hit a solo homer in the fifth inning.

The Monarchs pounded out 13 on the day as Wright, and Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) each had three, while Wright and JoeyBurney knocked in four runs each. First baseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.), and Burney both had two hits. Baker is now hitting .354and Burney is at .320. Every Monarch reached base today. Shortstop Derrick Osteen led the Tribe with three hits and a run batted in.

The third and final game of the CAA series is Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
