ODU Sailors Claim Sixth at St. Mary's Open

ST. MARY'S, Md. - A sixth-place result at the St. Mary's Open highlighted the weekend for the No. 17 Old Dominion University sailing team. The Monarchs also competed at the Danmark Trophy Intersectional Regatta, posting a 15th-place finish.

Navy won the Senator's Cup with 104 total points. Georgetown trailed the Midshipmen by four to claim second. St. Mary's, Hobart/William Smith and Virginia rounded out the top-five.

ODU junior skipper Gavin Rudolph teamed up with freshman crew Julia Wiesner and the duo earned a seventh-place result in the A-Division at the SMC Open. In 16 races the pair garnered seven top-seven finishes and three top-five results.

The Monarchs faired slightly better in the B-Division as freshman skipper Brady Stagg and junior crew Rachel Pokorny ended the regatta in fifth. The duo posted 11 top-five finishes and a win in the seventh race.

Senior skipper Stephanie Roble teamed up with Emily Reich and Arielle Darrow for a 12th-place finish in the A-Division at the Danmark Trophy Regatta. In the B-Division freshman skipper Scott Hoffmann paired up with both Jill Fattibene and Dillon Paiva for a 14th-place result.

St. Mary's won the Danmark Trophy with Roger Williams ending in second. In 16 races in each division, ODU placed boats in the top-10 on 12 separate occasions.

Old Dominion has another critical weekend approaching in which it will compete in four events. The Navy Fall Women's Intersectional and MAISA Men's Singlehanded will be held in Annapolis, Md., while ODU will also participate in the Hobart/WS Fall Intersectional in New York and the Tom Curtis Regatta at Georgetown.
