Baker Sets new Single Season Hit Streak In ODU Loss

NORFOLK, VA--Delaware (24-24/6-15) scored six runs in the fourth en rout to an 8-5Colonial Athletic Association win over Old Dominion ( 21-30/8-13) Sunday afternoonon senior day.

Ryan Cuneo, Dave Anderson, DJ. Long and Dave Angebranndt each knocked in two runsfor the Fightin's Blue Hens. Cuneo, Anderson and Chris Branigan also had three hitseach for Delaware.

ODU scored three runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomore first basemanChris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) led off with a double and scored on RBI a groundoutby Josh Wright. Kenny Stoneback then tripled home Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) and Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.).

ODU scored two runs in the ninth as Josh Wright led off the inning with his sixth homer of the season, a solo shot to left. Sophomore centerfielder Kenny Stoneback (Colonial Heights, VA.) later scored from third on a wild pitch.

Chris Baker led ODU with two hits which extends his hitting streak to 25 games and set a new ODU single season record. The old mark was 24 set by Jared Musolf in 2000. Baker is now hitting .363 overall and .387 in CAA games. The overall schoolmark over two seasons is 30 set by Anthony Forelli during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

Senior righthander Brian Rorick of Delaware picked up his fourth win of the year, striking out 10 in 8.1 innings of work.

Today was the final home game for seniors Chris Boggs, Chris Buss, John Malbon,Jake McAloose, Cameron Scott, Cory Toth, Austin Wright and Robbie Watkins.

ODU travels to the University of Richmond on Tuesday for a 3 pm. Game at Pitt Field.
