NORFOLK, VA--Senior designated hitter Cameron Scott (Culpeper, VA.) knocked in four runs on two hits and Old Dominion pounded out 15 hits to defeat the Bison of Bucknell, 9-5 Friday afternoon. ODU improves to 4-1 on the season.
ODU's starting pitcher, junior lefthander Kyle Hald(Springfield, Va.) pitched 6.2 innings with a career high 11 strikeouts and only one walk with nine hits.
Bucknell took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second inning when senior shortstop Chris Buss(Rosemont, MN.) hit his first homer of the season to right field. After a single by Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.),senior Cameron Scott hit a two-run homer to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead. ODU added another run on an RBI groundout by Nathan Hartman (Orlando, Fla.).
ODU added two runs in third as Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, VA.) scored on a wild pitch from third and Scott's sacrifice fly plated Chris Buss.
ODU finished the scoring with three runs in the fifth on RBI hits from Scott, Austin Wright (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Austin McGowan(Midlothian, VA.).
Josh Wright (Bridgewater, Va.) and Donnie Corsner led ODU with three hits each on the day, while Austin McGowan, Chris Buss, Cameron Scott and Austin Wright each had two hits.
Bucknell was led by Ben Allen and Drew Constable, each with three hits. Constable also knocked inthree runs for the Bison.
Bucknell and ODU will play a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Bud Metheny BaseballComplex.
