FAIRFAX, Va. -- Day two action of the 2010 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships is over and sophomore Erla Haraldsdottir reset the ODU record and captured an NCAA "B" cut with her third place performance in the 200 IM and the women's 400 medley relay team captured an new Lady Monarch record.

Through 12 events, the ODU men's team sits in third place with 152 points behind first place and eight-time CAA champion UNC-Wilmington with 242 points and George Mason in second with 200 points. Delaware is currently fourth scoring 145.5 points followed by William & Mary in fifth (124.5), Drexel in sixth (114), and Towson in seventh (70).

For the women, the ODU women's team is currently in seventh place with 75.5 points. Towson sits a top the leaderboard on the women's sdie with 224 with UNC-Wilmington in second with 210 poitns and James Madison in third with 159.5. William & Mary is in fourth (130.5) followed by George Mason in fifth (117), Delaware in sixth (93.5), the Lady Monarchs, Northeastern in eighth (60), and Drexel rounding out the schools in ninth (40).

Competition opened Thursday with the 200 free relays. On the men's side, the Monarch relay squad of sophomore Arni Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland), sophomore Ryan Peart (Fort Washington, Pa.), junior Steven Loccisano (Fredericksburg, a.) and senior Chad Gangwer (Va. Beach, Va.) took fifth place with their time of 1:22.54. The women's 200 free relay team of senior Agata Nowak (Gorzow, Poland), sophomore Emma Forbes (Peekskill, N.Y.), freshman Sara McLaren (Va. Beach, Va.), and freshman Carrie Goodman (Glen Allen, Va.) swam to an eighth place finish in a time of 1:35.97.

In the 500 free, the Monarchs had a pair place in the top 16. Freshman Ryan Peart claimed 11th with his time of 4:36.41, while Kris Hagg (Skovde, Sweden) took 15th in a time of 4:38.69.

The 200 IM saw sophomore Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland) set a new ODU record. Haraldsdottir, who had originally reset the Lady Monarch benchmark in the event last season, took third place and captured a NCAA "B" cut time by hitting the wall in 2:01.30. Teammate Maddie Stiles (Fairfax, Va.) reached the consolation finals swimming to a 15th place finish in a time of 2:06.68.

For the men, three Monarchs took to the water in the 200 IM finals. Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) finished in fifth place (1:52.03) and placed his name among the best 200 IM times in ODU history for fifth all-time. Also in the finals were Johan Lundberg (Fjaras, Sweden) in sixth place (1:52.20) and Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) in eighth place (1:53.48).

In the 50 free, the Monarchs' Arni Arnason swam to a fifth place time of 20.37. Two other Monarchs reached the consolation finals. Steven Loccisano placed ninth with a time of 21.11 and Chad Gangwer finished in 14th hitting the wall in a time of 21.25. The Lady Monarchs' Agata Nowak reached the consolation finals of the 50 free. The ODU senior placed 13th in her time of 23.93

In diving action, David Skorupa (Richmond, Va.) dove to a sixth place finish. The Monarch junior collected 268.25, just off his season best score of 269.85.

Day two competition closed with the 400 medley relay. For the women, the team of junior April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.), Erla Haraldsdottir, Agata Nowak, and Emma Forbes put together a third place finish with a time of 3:43.41 for a new ODU record. They surpass the previous record of 3:45.36. On the men's side, the team of Mikael Ramkvist, Arni Arnason, freshman Brian Fischetti (Richmond, Va.), and Chad Gangwer took fourth with a time of 3:20.78 clocking in with the second fastest time in the ODU record books.

Day three action at the 2010 CAA Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will include the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 800 free relay, and women's 1 meter diving. Click here for live results.
