COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Swimming and Diving action at the 2009 Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina concluded on Saturday. The Old Dominion men's team finished in seventh place, while the Old Dominion women concluded the invite in eighth. Four swimmers made event finals on the final day of action.

North Carolina won the invite for both the men and women. On the men's side, following the Tar Heels was host South Carolina followed by Duke. On the women's side, following the Tar Heels first place showing was Duke and host South Carolina.

Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) made the finals of the 200 back. On Friday, the native Sweden made the finals of 100 back, while Saturday he placed seventh in the 200 back with a finals time of 1:50.82.

Kristian Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) also made his second finals appearance. Ramkvist, who on Friday swam in the 100 breast finals, logged a sixth place time in the 200 breast. He clocked in with a time of 2:06.25. Also joining Ramkvist in the 200 breast was Jobin Bahminipour with a 16th place finish in a time of 2:13.18 in the "B" finals and Johan Lundberg (Fjaras, Sweden) in 17th and top finisher in the "C" finals with a time of 2:10.59.

Lauren Fiskus (Yorktown, Va.) meanwhile made the finals of the 200 breast. Fiskus swam her way to an eighth place time of 2:20.91 marking the second Lady Monarch to reach the finals at the 2009 Gamecock Invitational.

Jessica Hubert (Newport News, Va.) added to the Lady Monarchs' finals appearances at the invite. Hubert placed eighth in the 200 fly logging a time of 2:07.36. Maddie Stiles also swam in the 200 fly taking 18th with a time of 2:06.86 in the "C" finals.

In other men's action, in the 1650 free, the Monarchs' Jason Brame (Lynchburg, Va.) took 18th, clocking in with a time of 16:19.12 in the distance event. Kristofer Hagg (Skovde, Sweden) also swam the event taking 25th with his time of 16:47.77

The 200 fly had Kevin Latimer (Newport News, Va.) take 11th. Latimer registered a time of 1:53.14. Jason Brame took 21st recording a time of 1:56.71.

The 400 free relay field two ODU teams on the men's side. The ODU "A" squad of Mikael Ramkvist, Steven Gifford (Springfield, Va.), Sean Frye (Springfield, Va.), and Chad Gangwer (Va. Beach, Va.) swam their way to 15th with a time of 3:10.02. The ODU "B" squad of Johan Lundberg, Jason Brame, Austin Brett (Va. Beach, Va.), and Kristofer Hagg took 19th with a time of 3:20.69.

In diving action, the men's 1 meter saw the Monarchs' David Skorupa (Richmond, Va.) place eight. Skorupa scored a 282.65.

In the 1650 free Lauren Johnson (Balitmore, Md.) placed 27th swimming the distance in a time of 18:46.15.

In the 200 back, April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) claimed 15th overall. She hit the wall in a time of 2:05.32.

The 400 free relay team of Barrientos, Ashley Lushinger (Va. Beach, Va.), Sara McLaren (Va. Beach, Va.), and Lauren Johnson took 22nd in the field. They finished the relay with a time of 3:43.19.

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the water on Saturday, December 5th when they travel to meet George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
