Pat Kotten, a two-time conference Coach of the Year, is in his eighth season as head women's golf coach at Old Dominion University.
His student athletes have not only done well on the course, but also in the classroom. Bailey MOsier was named recipient of the Wilkins-Hoard Memorial Award as Female Scholar Athlete of the Year at ODU in 2008. She was also a finalist for the University's prestigious Kaufman Prize and was twice recognized as an ODU representative in USA TODAY's "Best and Brightest" competitions both in 2007 and 2008. She was named by the National Golf Coaches Association to the All-American Scholar Golf Team. In 2006, the Deztany Jackson was named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Golf Team.
Last year, The Lady Monarchs had four top ten finishes, including a fourth at Towson as well as an 11th at the 22-team Great Smokies tournaent.
In 2008, the Lady Monarchs placed in the top 10 in seven tournaments. ODU took Third at Marshall, fifth at its own Lady Monarch Invitational and seventh at William and Mary and El Diablo.
In 2007, ODU garnered seven top ten finishes, and four top five finishes including the championship of the Lady Monarch Invitational. Freshman Laura Holmes earned second team All-CAA honors.
In 2006, the Lady Monarchs had five top ten finishes which included a fourth place finish at the Tribe Classic and a sixth place at Bethune-Cookman's tournament.
Kotten has 13 years of Division I golf coaching experience. Prior to his coming to ODU, Kotten served as the men's head coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and started the women's program which he coached for four seasons.
As the men's golf coach at UMBC, the program captured the NEC Championship three straight years from 1998-2001. The squad advanced to the NCAA regionals in 2000 and 2001. Kotten was Named NEC Men's Golf Coach of Year in 1999 and 2001, while the women's team took third at the NEC Championships in 2001, their highest finish ever.
Kotten served on the ECAC women's championship committee from 2000-02 and the men's championship committee from 1999-02.
A graduate of Towson University in 1994, with a degree in theatre , Kotten has also served as the assistant golf pro at Rolling Road Golf Course in Catonsville, MD. Kotten and his wife Elizabeth have two sons, Samuel Patrick(17) and James (15).
