NORFOLK, VA. - Pat Kotten, a two-time Conference Coach of the Year has beennamed head golf coach at Old Dominion University, as announced by athletic director JimJarrett. The women's golf program will begin competition in the fall of 2003.

"Pat's experience and expertise as a college golfer, teacher, and coach will be astrong asset as Old Dominion University initiates this inaugural women's golf program, "said Jarrett. "We are delighted that coach Kotten has chosen to join our athletic family, andOld Dominion University hopes to take advantage of his experience at building golf programs."

Kotten has 12 years of Division I golf coaching experience. He served as the men'shead coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore-County and started the women's programfor which he coached for four seasons.

The men's program captured the NEC championship three straight years from 1998-2001.The men's team advanced to the NCAA regionals in 2000 and 2001. Kotten was named NEC men's golf Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2001. The women's team at UMBC placed third at the NEC Championships in 2001, their highest finish ever.

"I'm thrilled and honored to be a part of an institution that has such a tremendousreputation both academically and athletically," said Kotten. "I want to thank Dr. Jim Jarrett, andsenior associate athletic director, Dr. Mikki Baile for their confidence in me. I look forward to the challenge of building the program from the foundation. This program has unlimited potential given its location and support from the university, and I look forward to building that same support within the Hampton Roads community."

Kotten served on the ECAC women's championship committee from 2000-02 and themen's championship committee from 1999-02.

A graduate of Towson University in 1994, with a degree in theatre , Kotten has also served as the assistant golf pro at Rolling Road Golf Course in Catonsville, MD. Kotten and his wife Elizabeth have two sons, Samuel Patrick(8) and James (6).
