Jermaine Woods completed his second season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Old Dominion women's basketball team.
In 2016-17, Woods assisted ODU to a 17-14 overall record, including an 11-7 mark in Conference USA play. Over a slate that included six games against NCAA Tournament teams, the Lady Monarchs hit their stride late in the season, going 9-3 in a 12-game span from Jan. 14 to March 2. The No. 6 seed in the C-USA Tournament, ODU won its first round game over UTEP, before falling to No. 3 seed and eventual tournament runner-up Southern Miss, 80-74, in the quarterfinals. Woods, the recruiting coordinator, also helped sign the No. 1 class in C-USA.
In 2015-16, Woods helped guide the Lady Monarchs to a 17-17 overall record and a 10-8 mark in Conference USA play. ODU concluded the season winning five of its last six games, which featured a run to the C-USA title game before falling to eventual champion Middle Tennessee. During the tournament run, the Lady Monarchs upset top-seeded UTEP.
Prior to ODU, Woods joined the Virginia Tech women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in July 2013. He helped sign the Hokies' 2014-15 recruiting class, which was ranked No. 20 by ESPN HoopGurlz.
Woods arrived at Virginia Tech after three seasons as a head coach at Maury High School, where he led the team to a 61-18 record and berths in the regional finals. Woods also coached the Boo Williams AAU 17U and the Under B Team, where 21 students-athletes earned scholarships in his three years as head coach.
Prior to his coaching days, Woods was a standout athlete at Christopher Newport University where he was a two-time first team All-Dixie Conference selection and earned the league’s Newcomer of the Year award. Woods set Christopher Newport’s three-point record as a junior and broke the record again as a senior in 2003. Woods also competed professionally in Poland. The Virginia native graduated from Norfolk State with a degree in business management in 2011.
Woods and his wife Natasha have three children, Jermaine, Nyjae and Kerrington.
