2023 (SO): Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19…As a sophomore, she started 30-of-31 matches for the Monarchs and played in 112 sets. Her season totals included 154 kills, a .310 hitting percentage, five assist, 21 service aces, 32 digs, 112 blocks (22 solo), and 242.0 points…Had eight blocks and three kills in a 3-1 win over William & Mary on Aug. 29…Scored eight kills with two blocks to help ODU to a 3-2 win over North Alabama on Sept. 9…Tied her career high with nine blocks at West Virginia on Sept. 14 to help ODU to a 3-0 victory over the Mountaineers. She then followed that up with a six-block outing against Robert Morris (Sept. 14) and another seven versus NDSU (Sept. 15). Burgess added nine kills and served four aces against the Bison…Tallied eight kills at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 13.
2022 (FR): Virginia Tech Invitational All-Tournament Team ... Her freshman season saw her make 27 starts in 28 matches while appearing in 102 sets ... Her season totals included 172 kills, five assists, 23 service aces, 52 digs, 99 blocks (seven solo), and 248 points ... Scored double-digit kills three times and led the Monarchs in blocks ... Made her collegiate debut versus Michigan at the Northern Arizona Invitational, where she finished with two kills, one block and one dig ... Had 10 kills, two digs and a season-high nine blocks versus Marist at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Sept. 2 ... Scored 11 kills with two digs and four blocks against Navy in the team's Quest for the Crown tournament ... Ended up with a season-best 12 kills in the Sun Belt tournament against Arkansas State. She added one ace, one dig and six blocks to her match totals ... Finished the season ranked eighth in the conference in blocks per set (0.97).
Prep: Was a four-year varsity starter for Wakefield High School in Raleigh, North Carolina ... She was a four-time All-conference Selection and a two-time Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 and 2020 ... Additionally, she garnered Second Team All-State recognition in 2021 and All-Region honors in 2019 and 2020 ... Burgess made the AVCA All-American watch list and the Under Armour All-American watch list in 2021 and appeared four times each on the AVCA Phenom List (2018-21) and the Ultra Ankle JVA watch list (2018-21) ... Wakefield's Most Valuable Player in 2021 and her school's Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, she helped lead her club team, NC Academy, to the 17 Open and 18 Open Nationals.
