Sam Perryman completed his third season coaching the cornerbacks at Old Dominion.

Perryman led a group led by senior Brandon Addison, as well as underclassmen Joe Joe Headen and Jamez Brickhouse. Addison started every game on the year for the third-straight year, while Headen and Brickhouse split starting duties on the opposite side.

Addison, ODU's all-time leader in pass breakups, led the way and earned C-USA honorable mention honors. Headen intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble, earning C-USA All-Freshman honors.

Brandon Addison and Aaron Young combined to start 25 games in 2016 for ODU at cornerback, while redshirt freshman Jamez Brickhouse had a breakout Popeyes Bahamas Bowl with 11 tackles in his first career start.

Young led ODU with three interceptions, while Addison nabbed the first two of his career. Addison set ODU records for most pass breakups in a game with five, and already owns the career pass breakups record with 21, and one season left to play.

Perryman helped develop first year starting cornerbacks Aaron Young and Brandon Addison to help solidfy the pass defense.  With a combined one start between the two before the season, Addison and Young each started all 12 games for the Monarchs with Devon Brown, Aquante Thornton and Rob Thompson backing them up.  Young was fifth on the team with 59 tackles and added 1.5 sacks and his first career interception.  A walk-on, Addison notched 38 tackles and a team-high 11 pass breakups, tied for the single-season school record.

Perryman joins the Monarchs after two seasons at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.  Perryman coached the corners and was the recruiting coordinator in 2014 and helped the Bears to an undefeated regular season before falling to Valdosta State in the playoffs.  In his first season at L-R in 2013, Perryman coached the wide receivers and the Bears advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship game.

In 2012, Perryman coached at Lock Haven University as a defensive backs coach.  Prior to that he spent two years at Beloit (WI) coaching the defensive line and as defensive coordinator in 2011.

Perryman coached the wide receivers at Bucknell in 2009 and prior to that spent four seasons at Penn State working with the strength and conditioning staff, offensive assistant and assistant defensive line coach.

He got his start in collegiate coaching in 2004 at Muhlenberg (PA).

Perryman was a four-year letterwinner at Lehigh, helping the Mountain Hawks to three Patriot League Champions in his four years.

"Coach Perryman continues to develop our cornerback group into a solid unit. In 2016 we had two corners combine to start 25 games four our team and combine for 101 tackles. Overall this group is very young and Sam continues to develop them. I know this group will show improvement again this year under his leadership."
