Peter Taylor

Peter Taylor joined the Monarchs in 2019 and is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach at Old Dominion University. 
 
Tayor served as the assistant coach for the 15-3 regular season BIG EAST Championships Monarchs a staple to the coaching staff Taylor helped train the goalkeepers and Cam MacGillivray was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year with his work. Taylor was alos named along with Griffiths and Holder to the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. 

With Taylor on the bench, the Monarchs reached a second-consecutive BIG EAST Final in the spring 2021 season. ODU posted a 9-5 overall mark, went 8-3 in the BIG EAST and finished the season ranked 16th in the nation. Taylor coached National Field Hockey Coaches Association Second Team All-American Marlon de Bruijne, the leading freshman goal scorer (15) and point getter (32) in Division I, and unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree Delphine Le Jeune. In total, six Monarchs were named All-BIG EAST and both de Bruijne and Le Jeune were named all-state and all-region by VaSID and the NFHCA, respectively.

After missing out on the Big East Tournament in 2018, Taylor helped led the Monarchs to a 6-1 conference record and an appearance in the Big East Championship Final match, where they fell to No. 3 Connecticut. Rebecca Birch was named a third-team All-American, while her and Erin Huffman were named first and second team All-State and first and second team All-Region, respectively. ODU had five Monarchs named All-Big East as well, as Birch and Huffman were named to the first team, while Marlee McClendon, Cam MacGillivray and Nicole Fredricks all earn their first all-conference honor with their selection to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. 
 
Taylor joined ODU after three years as head coach at the University of Calgary and High-Performance Director for Field Hockey Alberta. He was twice named Canada West Conference Coach of the Year.
 
A native of Tamworth, Australia, Taylor played at the top level in Australia, competing on the Under-20 National Team. He then moved to the Netherlands to further his playing and coaching career. He played for 11 seasons in the Hoofdklasse and Euro Hockey League (EHL), twice winning the Bronze Medal in the EHL.
 
In the Netherlands, Taylor served as head coach for HGC, Rotterdam and Hurley U16 and U18 teams in the Dutch junior national competitions.
 
After retiring from playing, Coach Taylor took a position as Head Coach of the 1^st Ladies Team for Hockey Club HGC in The Hague.
 
Following three years at HGC, Taylor moved to Hockey Club Rotterdam to join the coaching staff of the 1^stLadies Team, Head Coach of the U18 Boys Team.
 
Coach Taylor also has extensive international experience, serving as Director and Lead Coach of Field Hockey Camps in South Africa, the Netherlands and the U.S. He was an assistant coach on the 2007 Netherlands Antilles team that earned a Bronze Medal in the Pan-Am games.
 
Taylor earned a Master's in Sports Coaching in 2017 from Griffith University in Australia. In 2009 he earned Coaching Diplomas A and B, the highest level of Coach Education offered in the Netherlands.
