NORFOLK, Va. -- The seventh-ranked Old Dominion women's field hockey closes its five-game road trip on Saturday, September 24th at #17 Richmond before returning home to host Drexel on Sunday, September 25th in their Colonial Athletic Association opener. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m.

* Old Dominion spilt contests for the fourth week in a row falling to #3 North Carolina, 1-0, and dropping #4 Duke, 5-3. Both games were on the road.
* The Lady Monarchs snapped a five-game losing streak to the Blue Devils in the win.
* Although Old Dominion fell to the Tar Heels, the Lady Monarchs outshot their opponent (11-5) and outcornered them (10-2). Senior Janelle Engle's shot total of five equaled the entire number of shots recorded by North Carolina.
* Old Dominion will open up CAA play this weekend hosting Drexel. Other home CAA games will including James Madison, Va. Commonwealth, and 2004 CAA Champion Delaware.
* Senior Janelle Engle was named the CAA Player of the Week for her efforts against the Tar Heels and Blue Devils last week. In last Saturday's 1-0 loss to the third-ranked Tar Heels, Engle led the team with five shots as the Lady Monarchs outshot the Tar Heels 11-5 and outcornered their opponent 10-2. Engle was then one of five Lady Monarch goal scorers against the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. She assisted on the Lady Monarchs' second goal of the afternoon, eight minutes into the game, and then put away a penalty corner goal which gave ODU a 4-0 lead early in the second half.
* Engle is currently tied for the Lady Monarchs' top scorer with five goals, three assists, and 13 points. Additionally she leads the league in shots (36) and shots per game (4.50). She is also seventh points (13), ninth in points per game (1.62), sixth in goals (5), seventh in goals per game (0.62), and ninth in assists (3).
* Other Lady Monarchs featured in the CAA stats this week are junior Dana Sensenig - who is tied along with Engle in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, and assists per game; Denise Admiraal - who is 10th in points (12), sixth in goals (5), and seventh in goals per game (0.62); Caroline Nichols - who is tied for third in assists (6), fifth in assists per game (0.75), and second in defensive saves (0.25).
* In the latest national stats junior Caroline Nichols continues to be ranked in the assists category. Nichols is currently tied for eighth in assists (6) and tied for 17th in assists per game (0.75).

* The Spiders moved up to the Top 20 this week in the STX/NFHCA Poll landing at #17. Richmond received votes in the first poll released.
* Richmond has taken on some familiar ODU foes having face five CAA teams in their first eight games. So far, the Spiders hold a 4-1 record against the conference, with their lone loss coming Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss to James Madison. The loss against the Dukes had snapped a four-game winning streak.
* The Lady Monarchs and Spiders also share a common opponent in American. The Eagles defeated the Spiders in the season opener, 1-3, before traveling down the road to defeat ODU, 3-2.
* Sophomore midfielder Shannon Taylor leads her squad with 12 points thanks to five goals and two assists. Next on the stat sheet is senior forward Whitney Wells with five points on two goals and assist.
* Michele Swartz stands between the Lady Monarchs and a goal. Swartz, a senior, is holding a 1.28 goals against average and .730 save percentage. She has four shutouts under her belt.
* Head coach Ange Bradley was recently named to the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame. Named the university's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 1987-88,she set virtually every school record during her career and led nationally-ranked Blue Hen teams to three East Coast Conference regular season titles.

* Senior defender Rachel Babacock and senior midfielder Amanda Mouser are tied for second on the Drexel roster in scoring, each with six points. Babcock has three goals to her name, while Mouser has collected two goals and two assists.
* In net, rookie goalkeeper Colleen McAndrew holds .769 save percentage along with a 1.15 goals against average. She ranks fifth in the CAA in saves, sixth in saves per game, and third in goals against average.
