NORFOLK, Va. -- The ninth ranked Old Dominion women's field hockey continues its road swing as they gear up for #3 North Carolina and #4 Duke. The Lady Monarchs take on the Tar Heels on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m. in Chapel Hill and the Blue Devils on Sunday, September 18th at 1:30 p.m. in Durham.

Vs. Miami (Ohio): W, 7-0
* Old Dominion spilt contests for the third week in a row falling to Michigan, 3-4, and picking up a shutout victory against Miami (Ohio), 7-0.
* The 7-0 shutout against the RedHawks was ODU's second of the season. The first came with a 4-0 victory over Virginia two weeks ago.
* The 7-0 win over Miami (Ohio) also marked ODU's largest margin of victory since an 11-0 win over CAA rival Towson on October 10, 2003.
* Junior Caroline Nichols was featured in the latest national statistics. She is currently tied for 10th in assists, having made five through the Lady Monarchs first six games and tied for fifth in defensive saves with two.
* In the first STX/NFHCA national poll released on Tuesday, the Lady Monarchs were ranked ninth while a 3-3 overall mark after three weeks of play. In all, 15 opponents that ODU will or have faced are ranked or receiving votes in this week's poll. Six of those opponents appear in the top 10.
* On the stat sheet, three Lady Monarchs are tied for the top spot in scoring with 10 points apiece. Senior Janelle Engle, junior Dana Sensenig, and rookie Denise Admiraal have all compiled four goals and two assists.
* The Lady Monarchs have had a balanced attack with 10 players registering a goal.
* Following this weekend, the Lady Monarchs have one more road contest with a trip to Richmond on Saturday, September 24th. Old Dominion will then return home to open up CAA play against Drexel.

* North Carolina comes into Saturday's contest with an undefeated 6-0 record having allowed only one goal. Old Dominion's CAA rival William & Mary managed the only goal scored against the Tar Heels so far this season.
* The Tar Heels and Lady Monarchs have several common opponents in 2005. Besides North Carolina's ACC foes (Duke, Maryland, Virginia), both teams will also face and have already played Michigan and Penn State along with ODU's conference rivals in James Madison and William & Mary.
* North Carolina has won the last four meetings and has swept the home-and-home series the last two seasons. Last year, the Tar Heels edged ODU, 1-0, in Chapel Hill and took a 4-1 victory in front of CSTV television cameras in Norfolk.
* Old Dominion's last victory against the Tar Heels came on November 2, 2002 as the game was decided on penalty strokes. Old Dominion went on to win 3-2 and would make an appearance in the Final Four that season.
* The Tar Heels and Lady Monarchs have played each other twice during the regular season every year since 1987.
* In the statistical rankings, North Carolina is second in the nation in scoring defense, having given up just one goal in six games.
* On the stat sheet, sophomore forward/midfielder Heather Kendall leads her squad with three goals, three assists, and nine points. Fellow sophomore forward/midfielder Alli Tanner has registered eight points from four goals.
* Katy Tran will be the last line of defense for North Carolina. She is currently posting a .210 goals against average and a .944 save percentage. She ranks second nationally in both categories.

* The Blue Devils will host Iowa on Saturday before welcoming the Lady Monarchs to Williams Field on Sunday.
* Blue Devil head coach Beth Bozman served as a graduate assistant at Old Dominion in 1981 under current head coach Beth Anders. That season began the first of 24 straight appearances for the Lady Monarchs in the NCAA Tournament. Old Dominion finished with a 13-2-2 overall record and a third place finish in the NCAA Tournament.
* Duke has won the last five meetings including two NCAA victories. Last year, the Blue Devils won both regular season meetings and knocked ODU out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round.
* Duke currently leads the country in margin of victory, earning wins by an average of 4.11 goals. They also led the country in scoring offense averaging 5.40 goals per game.
* Senior forward Katie Grant leads the team with 14 points from six goals and two assists. She is currently tied for fifth nationally in points and tied for fifth in goals. Next in line in scoring is fellow classmate and forward Nicole Dudek with five goals, an assist, and 11 points.
* In net, sophomore Caitlin Williams has started all five games. She holds a 1.08 goals against average and .867 save percentage. She ranks fourth among Division I goalkeepers in goals against average and eighth in save percentage.
