NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team moved up a notch in the latest STX/NFHCA Poll to No. 7 after a 1-1 week which featured a 4-1 victory over then No. 2 Maryland.
The Lady Monarchs (11-5) return to action this weekend in two critical Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) match-ups as the conference seasons comes closer to an end. Old Dominion travels to #13 Northeastern on Friday, October 21st and Hofstra on Sunday, October 23rd.
James Madison joins Northeastern and Old Dominion as the other ranked CAA team in the latest poll. The Dukes are No. 19, while Hofstra and William & Mary continue to receive votes.
Old Dominion has seen it share of ranked competition having play teams ranked two through six. The Lady Monarchs have picked up five wins over ranked teams and has also earned three victories over foes ranked in the top 10.
In the national stats, senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.), junior Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.), and freshman Denise Admiraal (Heillo, Holland) all continue to be ranked in the points category. Sensenig is listed seventh in total points (36) and ninth in points per game (2.25) to lead all Lady Monarch scorers. Engle follows closely at 10th in total points (35) and 13th nationally in points per game (2.19), while Admiraal ranks 13th in points collected (31) and 18th in points per outing (1.94).
Engle and Admiraal have reach tallied 14 goals through 16 games thus far and are tied for eighth in total goals and 10th in goal per game (0.88).Junior Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.) continues to lead the nation with 16 assists and averages a nation's second-best 1.00 assists per game.
