Connecticut: The 10^th ranked Huskies entered the week with a 2-1overall record and will face Quinnipiac and Stanford before playing the LadyMonarchs on Sunday afternoon. In theirprevious outing, UConn was defeated, 2-1, by Penn State last Sunday in StateCollege, Pa. UConn came out strong to start things off, as junior Mary JoMalone notched an unassisted goal just 5:47 seconds into the game, giving theHuskies a 1-0 advantage. The Husky defense held for the next 20 minutes, butPSU knotted the score at one. Just fiveminutes into the second stanza, PSU's Michele Rigby punched in the game-winneroff an assist from Mary Schaefer. Reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of theWeek Maureen Butler was tested by the Nittany Lion's potent offensive attack,facing 12 shots and stopping six.

CAA OPENER:

The Lady Monarchs are 11-1 all-time in ColonialAthletic Association (CAA) openers.Their lone loss was against James Madison, 0-1, in 1995, the same yearthe Dukes captured the CAA title. OldDominion was opened conference play against William & Mary just one othertime. Back in 2000, the Lady Monarchsdefeated #11^th ranked Tribe, 3-0, in Williamsburg.

CAA STREAK:

The Lady Monarchs have not lost a CAA contest sincea 1-2 loss to James Madison in the championship game of the 1995 CAATournament. Since then, Old Dominionhas won 38 regular season games and 14 CAA Tournament games for a grand totalof 52 consecutive conference wins.

THE TALLY AGAINST THE TERPS:

Old Dominion redshirt freshman Darcy Pinchbeck(Suffolk, VA) became the only Terp opponent to reach the back of the Marylandnet thus far this season in last Saturday afternoon's 2-1 loss to Maryland. Maryland had shutout out each of theirprevious opponents entering the game with the Lady Monarchs and was outscoringtheir opponents 21-0. The Terps alsopicked up just their second ever Foreman Field victory and improved to 2-10-1all-time on the Lady Monarchs' home turf.

OFFENSIVE MINDED:

Againstthe Cardinal last Sunday, the Lady Monarchs snapped a two-game slide as ODU dominated the offenseoutshooting Stanford 38-5 and holding a 20-4 advantage in penalty corners. Five different Lady Monarchs reached theback of the net in the victory led by sophomore Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, PA)with one goal and an assist. Leadingscorer Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) send her second game-winner through the pipeswith just under 10 minutes remaining.The Lady Monarch defense did not allow a single Stanford shot and onlyone Cardinal penalty corner in the first half of play.
