NORFOLK, VA. - The Old Dominion men's and women's soccer squads get underwaythis weekend. The Monarchs, who have received votes for the top 25, and are picked tofinish second in the CAA host St. Francis (Pa.) Friday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Stadium. The Lady Monarchs open Friday night at UNC Greensboro.
This is the first meeting ever between St. Francis and ODU. The Red Flash, from Loretto, PA. are members of the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash will have only two seniors on theroster. Junior midfielder Gary Burke led them with five assists last year.
The Monarchs will be paced by two-time CAA Player of the Year Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia), and All-CAA forward Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA.). Other solid returnees include midfielder Kevon Harris (Kingston, Jamaica), forwards Michael Goncalves (AlexandriaVA., and Brian Cvilikas (Highlands Ranch, CO.), and goalies Sam Cameron (Raliegh, NC.) andJohn Connelly (Rockville, MD.).
Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for youth , senior citizens, military and faculty and staff,$2 for a group of ten or more.
The Lady Monarchs travel to Greensboro, NC. for a 7 p.m. gametime.
This years' squad returns all but two starters from a year ago. Key returnees include AshleyKramer (Jefferson Hills, PA.), Diane Baucom (Va. Beach, VA.), Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA.), Kim Snyder (Va. Beach, Va.), Sarah Raible (Louisville, KY.) , Shibaughn Stevens (Penfield, NY.) and goalkeepers Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, Va.) and Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting,PA.).
Seven of the first eight Lady Monarch games will be on the road. UNCG coached by EddieRadwanski defeated ODU, 1-0 in last year's match.
