NORFOLK, Va. – Two new J.C. Scrap Chandler Pool records were set by Zach Redding one individually and the other by the men's free relay team of Robby Young, Nick Chierico, Dawson Truong and Redding.
The Old Dominion men’s swimming team fell short to George Mason 139-123 in Friday's meet. The George Mason women’s team also picked up a 149-113 win over the Monarchs.
"I am so proud of the hard work our athletes have put in leading to our meet today. Their dedication was apparent today, not only in each individual swim but also with our strong team presence on the pool deck. We are in great place as we look forward to racing again next weekend," said Head Coach Jess Livsey.
The meet started with the women’s 200 medley relay of Addison Elliott, Adrienne Rinker, Emma Seidel and Bella Pachek taking second with a time of 1:47.45.
The men’s team of Jacob Glans, Toni Sallaku, Truong and Chierico finished second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.76.
First year Martina Llorach Fustes won the 1000 freestyle, her first race as a Monarch, with a time of 10:27.53. Sophia Kapla finished behind her in third with a time of 10:42.36.
Jonathan Payne, also a first year in his first race as a Monarch, took first in the 1000 men free with a time of 9:35.15, finishing behind him in third was Cooper Beebe with a time of 10:03.79.
Mallory Mackey placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.38.
Nick Martin finished second in the men 200 yard free with a time of 1:42.87, following behind him in third was Bryant Julian with a time of 1:44.42.
Elliott Picked up a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56:52.
Jacob Glans placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.02.
Rinker finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.54.
Sallaku finished at the top of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.65. Truong followed behind him in second with a time of 57.66.
Monarchs finished 1-2-3 in the 200-fly leading the way was first year, Savannah Harris, with a time of 2:10.64. Anna Lupo followed behind her with a time of 2:10.90. Shortly after her was Linnea Kallebo with a time of 2:11.52.
Zane Nall finished third in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:56.94.
Elliott with another top three finish this time finishing third in the 50-yard free.
Redding with a first-place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 20.21.
Mallory Mackay placed third in the 100-yard free with a time of 54.08.
Redding with another first place finish this time in the 100-yard free with a time of 44.66.
Kallebo takes second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.70.
First year Yanitsa Karlova added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.95.
Sallaku with his second top three finish of the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.95.
Fustes Llorach took second-place finish in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:10.45. Followed behind her in third was Kapla with a time of 5:20.46.
Jonathan Panye finished at the top of the 500-yard free with a time of 4:37.75. Martin followed behind in third with a time of 4:46.27.
Harris led the way in the 100-yard fly with a time of 56.63. Followed behind her in third was Lupo with a time of 58.32.
Redding added his third first place finish of the day but also finished with a pool record of 47.77 in the 100-yard butterfly. Truong followed behind him in third with a time 50.92.
Karlova led the way in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.41.
Julian finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.19.
The relay team made of Bella Pachek, Mackay, Olivia Dunham and Elliot finished third in the 200-yard freestyle.
The Men’s relay team made up of Young, Chierico, Truong and Redding finished strong with a pool record of 1:22.52 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Next up, the Monarchs will be away for a two-day meet in Boiling Springs, North Carolina to take on Garder-Webb.
