PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Old Dominion women’s lacrosse dropped its competition against Temple in Philadelphia by a 17-7 score on Saturday afternoon.

The first quarter began as anyone’s game, with Temple’s (9-4, 1-3 American) Jenna Faccioli grabbing the first goal of the day with almost 12 minutes remaining. Old Dominion’s (5-9, 0-4 American) Annalynn Pompetti responded under two minutes later on a free-position goal, putting the Monarchs on the board. Kylie O’Donnell took a momentary lead for ODU after a power-play goal, though Lexi Culp netted one in for the Owls 14 seconds later. Brooke Mazzei scored the next goal for Temple with 6:08 remaining, though Julia Butler helped end the quarter tied 3-3 for ODU with a goal at the 1:24 mark.

Old Dominion was quiet in the second quarter as Culp continued to score for the Owls, opening the second quarter with a free-position goal. Mazzei recorded her second goal of the day five minutes later, before Sabrina Martin added to Temple’s lead with 5:57 remaining in the half. To end the second quarter, Kali Saito netted one in to push Temple’s lead to 7-3.

Culp grabbed a hat trick to begin the third quarter, while Amelia Wright scored her first goal of the day 14 seconds later. Butler broke up Temple’s scoring run with her second goal, though Wright and Culp scored again as the quarter neared its halfway point. Butler recorded a hat trick with two minutes remaining in the third, but it would be Martin who would have the last goal of the quarter, bringing the score to 12-5.

O’Donnell opened the fourth quarter for Old Dominion, grabbing her second goal with under 12 minutes of play remaining. Sarah Gowman scored her first three minutes later, while Wright became the second Owl to score a hat trick after netting one in with 8:07 left. Paige Feick recorded her first collegiate goal with under four minutes remaining, while Ella Bowen broke up Temple’s scoring run with a goal at the two minute mark. Wright and Lily Caravela both found the back of the net to end the game in the Owl’s favor, 17-7.

Temple outshot ODU, 33-16, with 10 caused turnovers and 17 draw controls to ODU’s four and nine respectively, though the Monarchs collected eight saves to the Owl’s four.

Butler led Old Dominion in scoring with three goals as O’Donnell followed behind with two. Lydia Laney had a team-high two assists while Julia Mills accounted for six draw controls.

Old Dominion remains on the road as the team takes on East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. on Saturday, April 11 at 12 p.m.
