NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion sailing finished second in the Hanbury Trophy, placed seventh in the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, and ODU women’s sailing competed in the Blaire Herron Memorial Team Race and placed seventh.
"The two team race regattas were highly competitive,” said ODU head coach Mitch Brindley. "We struggled on the starting line on Sunday against the more aggressive opponents. And the conditions didn’t make it easy to come back. The racing at Old Dominion was great. We just didn’t sail as well as we could."
The Hanbury Trophy was hosted by Christopher Newport in Newport News, Virginia. Princeton’s first team took home first place in the overall standings, and their second boat captured third. ODU finished in second, Virginia Tech placed fourth, Christopher Newport finished in fifth, Virginia ended the day the day in seventh, and Hampton and William & Mary rounded out the standings in seventh and eighth, respectively.
ODU hosted the annual Aaron Szambecki Team Race in Norfolk, Va. and Georgetown took first place. Stanford, Tulane, Navy, Dartmouth, and Fordham finished ahead of the Monarchs from second to sixth. Old Dominion fielded three boats, skipper Blake Goodwin paired up with crew Cadence Goodnight while boat two was composed of skipper Diogo Silva and crew Lindsey Kaufmann. ODU’s boat three was manned by skipper Pierce Brindley and crew Madison Bivins.
Georgetown hosted the Blaire Herron Team Race and finished first on the day. ODU ended the day in seventh out of eight teams, Tulane finished second and Dartmouth grabbed third, Cornell placed fourth, St. Mary’s (Md.) finished fifth, Hobart and William Smith ended the day in sixth. ODU fielded three boats in the competition. Monarch Skipper Gianna Dewey paired up with crew Petra Humphrey in boat one, boat two composed of skipper Arabella Duer and crew Helena Allocco, while boat three was manned by skipper Marina Conde and crew Molly Hanson.
