NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion Lacrosse fell 17-2 to Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

“It’s really tough to see this team facing this amount of adversity. Not the outcome we all went into it together expecting,” said head coach Theresa Walton

The Commodores (6-5,1,0) were first on the board with a goal from Hayden Miller who connected with Bailey Lower to put Vandy up 1-0 with 13:39. Vanderbilt then would go on to score eight more goals, two from Bailey Lower, Anna Taraboletti, Brooke Baker, Molly Krestinski, Shea Panzik, and Miller added another to close the first quarter Vanderbilt, 9-0.

The second quarter began with a second goal from Taraboletti with 12:19 on the clock. Then 10 minutes later, Old Dominion’s (5-6, 0-1) Katie Pfeiler would score the first Monarch goal assisted by Ella Bowen to close out the first half.

After the break, Lower scored her second of the day with 12:26 to go in the third, putting the Commodores up 10-1. ODU’s Ashley Greene responded with her first career goal with four minutes left for the second Monarch goal of the day. Commodores Grace Hasselbeck and Avery Morton closed out the game with goals from each to close out the Saturday afternoon game 17-2, Vanderbilt.

“We have a lot of growing to do with each other and for each other. It’s going to take everyone, our staff included, to look in the mirror and ask ourselves if we are giving everything we possibly can, and are we doing that for the right reasons,” said Walton.

The Commodores outshot the Monarchs 37-13, and led in draw controls 16-4. ODU goalkeeper Bowen recorded nine saves, while Vandy Emme Martin goalkeeper saved seven.
