FRISCO, TEXAS - Old Dominion women’s basketball dropped the first game of the 2025 Women’s Hoopfest Challenge on Tuesday night, 67-42 to Texas Tech.

“Tough night of shooting and finding a rhythm suitable for us to make a better game to put on display,” said ODU head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones. Texas Tech's length bothered us on too many occasions tonight.

TTU (8-0) got off to a 7-0 run in the first four minutes of the first quarter to establish their advantage over ODU (5-2). Jaylnn Bristow scored the first basket of the night, a three-pointer 18 seconds following the Lady Raiders winning the tip. Sarengbe Sanogo got herself to the line and made both shots and Bailey Maupin went 2-2 at the line as well to give the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead.

Old Dominion brought its deficit back to only three points following a pair of free throws by Laila Walker and a made jumper by Kelsey Thompson. Snudda Collins made a layup with 1:38 and Mariah Clayton scored a driving layup plus the foul but couldn’t convert at the line. A three-pointer by Bristow closed out the first quarter to give TTU a 12-6 lead.

TTU opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 18-6. ODU stopped the bleeding but only for a short period of time as Nevaeh Scott went 1-for-2 at the line. Texas Tech responded with a 7-0 run to go up 25-7 with 4:39 remaining. Buford made an and-one jumpshot and made the free throw to get the Monarchs to within 15 points. ODU closed out the quarter with a three-pointer by Buford to cut it to a dozen. Jada Malone made both her free throws and Carter would score the final point of the half after going 1-for-2 at the line, 31-18 at the break.

TTU opened the second half on a 12-5 run to expand its lead to 20 points by the media break at the 4:40 mark. Cunningham made a layup at 8:18 and Fields netted a pullup three-pointer at 7:24 but could not string together baskets at one end and stops at the other for long enough as the third quarter ended, 52-25.

Collins opened the fourth quarter with a three to extend the TTU lead to 30 points, 55-25. ODU would score 17 points, its most in a single quarter, the rest of the way as the game ended, 67-42.

“While we lost, I was pleased with certain efforts we showed from players entering the game,” said Jones. We will reset and gear up for Oregon on Thursday. Very quick turnaround that allows us to assess tonight’s loss and move on.”

Buford finished with a team high eight points on 50% shooting and made one three. Laila Walker finished with six points and eight rebounds. Riley Stack ended the night with six rebounds and three blocks. Alisha Nunley had a team high three steals.
