NEW ORLEANS - Old Dominion women’s soccer is slated to take on Georgia State in the Quarterfinal of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday, Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Monarchs and Panthers just played each other on Wednesday night in Norfolk. ODU came out with a 2-1 victory to take the East Division and the number two seed in the tournament.
ABOUT ODU:
Old Dominion won its 10th game of the regular season last time out against GSU. The Monarchs played Georgia State last season in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship and won 1-1, 5-4 PKs. This will be the 16th all-time matchup between the two East Division foes, with ODU holding a 9-4-2 advantage.
The Monarchs are paced by Riley Mullen who has had a breakout season, senior captains Gry Boe Thrysoe and Andrea Balcazar Algarin, and newcomers like freshman Ashley Economopoulos. Mullen has five assists and five goals to lead ODU in points, Economopoulos has four goals and five assists for 13 points, Thrysoe is tied with Mullen on five goals and has dished one assists. Senior forward Yuliia Khrystiuk has dished out eight assists this season to lead ODU and scored two goals for 12 points.
In goal, junior Ellie Goodrich and graduate student Erin Jones have split time in net for the Monarchs. Both have started eight out of Old Dominions 16 fixtures. Goodrich has a 5-0-3 record and Jones has a 5-2-1 record. Goodrich has made 16 saves and kept five clean sheets, Jones has recorded nine saves and kept one clean sheet.
ABOUT GSU:
GSU finished the regular season with nine losses, seven defeats, and two ties. The Panthers are 2-2 heading into the tournament and are coming off back-to-back losses to JMU (2-0) and ODU (2-1).
Emily Glenn, Hina Suzuki, and Aaliyah Fadoul are both knotted at six goals each to lead Georgia State. Faddoul scored her sixth goal of the season from the penalty spot and the Panthers lone goal in the defeat to ODU. Reese Gordon rounds out the scorers with four goals, she has also provided two assists. Sunniyah Tucker leads the Panthers with six assists and has found the back of the net three times.
Ariana Anderson will be entering the game following a five save performance against ODU. She has played in 15 games, made 59 saves, and kept four shutouts. Alondra Iriarte has made five appearances and three starts. She has six saves and one clean sheet.
