NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball concludes the regular season with a pair of Sun Belt matches at Arkansas State this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15.
The series is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET start on Friday and a 1 p.m. ET start on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
Series History
The two programs have met three times, with the Red Wolves ahead in the series ,3-0. ODU and A-State first met in the opening round of the 2022 Sun Belt Championship, a match that went to sixth-seeded ASU, 3-2. The Monarchs then hosted the Red Wolves on Nov. 14-15 to finish the 2024 season, falling to the visitors 3-1 and 3-2.
About ODU
The Monarchs (5-20, 2-12 Sun Belt) hosted James Madison in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry last weekend, falling 3-0 and 3-2 to the Dukes. Last Saturday also marked Senior Day for the team, with LeeAnne Lowery recognized in a pregame ceremony.
ODU’s offense is led by Elisa Maggi with 304 kills (3.30 per set) and 346 points (3.76 per set). Katie Rakoski follows her with 190 kills and 205.5 points, and Rita Benidio is third with 149 kills and 185 points. Wiktoria Zagumny owns 584 assists and is currently second in the Sun Belt with 8.85 assists per set. Kate Kilpatrick has served 27 aces, Benidio is right behind her with 26 aces, and Maggi has served 21.
On defense, Kilpatrick leads ODU’s back line with 332 digs (3.86 per set). Maggi is second on the team with 212, and Adrienne Peji is third with 189. Emma Schelah has made a team-high 68 blocks and Tiana Stubbs enters the series with 40 blocks.
The Monarchs are 229th in the RPI rankings.
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves (17-8, 10-4) clinched their second consecutive Sun Belt West Division title last weekend as they a completed a 3-0 sweep of South Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Jaguars won the first match of the series, 3-1 on Friday, Nov. 7. A-State has won four of its last five matches and is 69th in the latest RPI rankings.
Daedrianna Cail leads ASU with 351.5 points and is second on the team with 243 kills (2.53 per set). She’s also seventh in the country with 140 blocks, is 17th nationally with 1.46 blocks per set, and owns the second-best hitting percentage in the Sun Belt with a .376 clip. Kaitlyn Whitlock has the most kills for A-State with 253 (2.64 per set), and setters Erin Madigan and Valeria Ortiz are up to 595 and 355 assists, respectively. Mia Maloney is the top server with 38 aces, good for third in the conference, and she also leads the Red Wolves with 342 digs (3.56 per set). Haley Glunz needs three more blocks to reach 100 on the season.
Through matches played on Nov. 11, the Red Wolves rank fifth in Division I with a .141 opponent hitting percentage. A-State is also seventh in the country with 267 blocks and 13th with 2.78 blocks per set. The team is second in the SBC in hitting percentage (.244) and is third in the league in service aces (149), aces per set (1.55), and win percentage (68.0%).
Head coach Brian Gerwig is in his fourth season with the program. The Red Wolves were picked to finish second in the West Division in the SBC Preseason Coaches Poll with Cail and Whitlock earning spots on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.
