NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball is headed to Huntington, West Virginia this weekend for a meeting with Sun Belt East Division foe Marshall.

Held at the Cam Henderson Center, the Monarchs and Herd will play at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.

Series History

ODU and Marshall have played 10 matches against each other, with the Herd ahead in the all-time series 6-4. Marshall has won the past three meetings and edged ODU 3-1 and 3-0 on Nov. 1-2 last year in Norfolk.

About ODU

The Monarchs (5-16, 2-8 Sun Belt) split their Sun Belt series with Southern Miss last week. After dropping the series opener 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 23, the Monarchs got back in the win column with a straight-set victory over the Golden Eagles on Friday, Oct. 24.

ODU’s offense is led by Elisa Maggi with 267 kills (3.42 per set) and 303.5 points (3.89 per set). She enters this weekend ranked third in the Sun Belt with 825 attacks and is fourth in the conference with 10.58 attacks per set. Katie Rakoski is second on the team with 115 kills, Wiktoria Zagumny and Kyra Hampton have 451 and 242 assists, respectively, and Kate Kilpatrick and Rita Benidio have combined to serve 47 aces.

Defensively, Kilpatrick leads the back row with 269 digs (3.74 per set). Following her are Maggi with 192 digs and Adrienne Peji with 165. At the net, Emma Schelah has accounted for 56 blocks (10 solo), Maggi and LeeAnne Lowery have made 37 blocks each, and Tiana Stubbs is right behind them with 36.

In conference play, Hampton ranks fourth in the SBC with 8.15 assists per set, Benidio is sixth in the league with 0.41 aces per set, and Kilpatrick is seventh with 3.86 digs per set.

About Marshall

The Thundering Herd (12-11, 4-6) was in Atlanta last weekend and splits its Sun Belt series at Georgia State. Marshall won the first match 3-1 on Friday, but fell 3-0 to the Panthers on Saturday.

Emma Barnett leads the team with 246 kills (3.00 per set) and 284 points (3.46 per set), and Beatrice Ciccarelli is second with 178 kills (2.14 per set) and 244.5 points (2.95 per set). Setter Bella Thompson is up to 600 assists (7.14 per set), Barnett has served 22 aces, Ciccarelli owns 18 aces, and Emma Sayre has 16.

Sayre is Marshall’s leader in digs with 262 (3.97 pet set) and Barnett is second with 205 (2.50 per set). Ciccarelli has recorded 80 blocks (17 solo) and averages 0.96 blocks per set, and Marae Reilly is next with 37 blocks.

As a team, the Herd ranks third in the Sun Belt with 1,224 digs this season. Marshall was picked to finish seventh in the East Division in the Preseason Coaches Poll. Heather Stout is in her second year with the program and her first as head coach of the Herd.

ODU has its final two home matches of the regular season next week when the Monarchs host James Madison in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry. The series opens with a 6 p.m. match on Friday, Nov. 7 and the teams then return for a 2 p.m. first serve on Saturday, Nov. 8 in what will also mark Senior Day for the Monarchs.
