NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion volleyball will be at Coastal Carolina this weekend for a Sun Belt series versus the Chanticleers.
Held at CCU’s HTC Center, the two teams will play at 6 p.m. this Friday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats will also be available.
Series History
ODU and CCU have played six matches against each other with the all-time series tied at 3-3. The Monarchs hosted Coastal in Norfolk last season, defeating the Chanticleers 3-1 on Oct. 4 and 3-1 on Oct. 5.
About ODU
The Monarchs (3-10, 0-2 Sun Belt) opened conference play against Georgia Southern last week and dropped both matches to the Eagles in straight sets. Bryanna Jones led ODU in the series with 17 kills, Kyra Hampton tallied 46 assists, and Elisa Maggi served three aces. On defense, Kate Kilpatrick and Maggi combined for 48 digs while Maggi and LeeAnne Lowery made six blocks each.
Maggi leads ODU with 164 kills (3.35 per set) and 188.5 points. She’s currently third in the Sun Belt with 511 attack attempts and is fourth in the league with 10.43 attacks per set. Jones is second on the team with 89 kills and Katie Rakoski is third with 87. Wiktoria Zagumny has 289 assists and ranks fourth in the conference with 8.03 assists per set, while Hampton is up to 125 assists (4.63 per set).
Kilpatrick has served the most aces with 17 and is also the team leader in digs with 182 (3.79 per set). Lowery has made 36 blocks, followed by Emma Schelah with 31 and Maggi with 26.
About Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers (9-4, 2-0) won both of their matches at Marshall last week, defeating the Thundering Herd 3-0 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. Anna Rita was named the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording 14 blocks with a .643 hitting percentage. Additionally, Jaylyn Stout set a new NCAA record as she posted her 40th career triple double on Friday with 11 kills, 11 assists, and 11 digs.
Stout is fourth in the conference with 171 kills and 202 points. Emily Fowler has scored 117 kills and ranks third in the SBC with a .381 hitting percentage. Ava Wallis is the team’s primary setter with 264 assists (5.39 per set), followed by Stout with 195 assists (3.90 per set). Emma Van Elslande has served 16 aces, with Stout and Bailee Earnhardt tied for second on the team with 13 aces each. Defensively, Earnhardt and Stout have recorded 167 and 166 digs, respectively. Rita leads the conference and is fourth in Division I with 79 blocks. She’s also first in the Sun Belt and eighth in the nation with 1.58 blocks per set.
As a team, the Chanticleers rank 10th in the country with 138 blocks and are 19th with 2.76 blocks per set.
Head coach Steve Loeswick is in his third season with the program. The Chants were picked to finish third in the Sun Belt East Division in the league’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Stout was voted the Preseason Player of the Year and represented Coastal Carolina on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.
