NORFOLK, Va. - ODU women’s soccer is looking to continue its winning ways against in-state matchups after a 2-1 victory over #20 Virginia Tech. The Monarchs travel to Richmond, Va. to match up against the VCU Rams on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Sports Backers Stadium.

The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for all fans who wish to follow along with the action.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Monarchs opened the 2024 campaign against the Rams on Thursday, August 15 at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Old Dominion’s Rhea Kijowski opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Yuliia Khrystiuk extended the lead in the 79th. VCU’s Kanna Matsuhisa got a consolation goal with 20 seconds left in the game that ended 2-1.

ABOUT OLD DOMINION:

Old Dominion is coming off a thrilling 2-1 win against VT on Thursday, September 4 to give the Monarchs their third win of the season. ODU is 1-1-0 in the last two games and is 3-1-0 in the last four. ODU is 1-0-1 against Top 25 teams in 2025 after opening the season with a 2-2 draw against then #19 Georgetown.

Riley Mullen and Brooke Edwards both scored their first goals of the season against the Hokies. Captain Gry Boe Thrysoe leads the team with two goals and five points. A native of Vinnytsia, Ukraine Khrystiuk has two assists to rank first for the Monarchs. In five games played ODU has six different goalscorers.

Erin Jones has made four starts and played a combined 360 minutes. She has made four saves and has one clean sheet. Ellie Goodrich started against William & Mary in the Monarchs’ 1-0 victory.

ABOUT VCU:

The Rams out of Richmond are on a two-game win streak heading into Sunday’s contest. In VCU’s last game the Rams hosted Navy and defeated the Midshipmen 2-1 after falling behind 1-0 in the 51st. VCU’s Jazmin Jackson scored in the 85th minute to complete the Ram’s comeback.

Jensyn Lins leads the team with five points on one goal and three assists. Kendyl Sarver is close behind with four points. Stella Castro, Keira McCloskey, Tatum Scialdone, and Vivian Vendt have all chipped in one goal for the Rams.

Mia Pongratz has started all six games in goal for VCU. She has allowed 12 goals and made 28 saves. She has one shutout this season.
