NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s soccer welcomes the #20 Virginia Tech Hokies to the ODU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. It will be Pack the Park Night with free admission for fans and it is Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night in Norfolk.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for all fans who wish to follow along with the action.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Monarchs played the Hokies back on Thursday, August 31, 2024 in Blacksburg, Virginia. The ODU defense was resolute and drew 0-0 in enemy territory. The two sides were even in total shots (11) with the Hokies gaining a slight edge in shots on target with six to ODU’s four. VT’s goalkeeper Alia Skinner was forced to make saves on all four of the Monarchs’ shots on target. ODU keeper Emily Bredek was a wall in goal and made six saves.
ABOUT OLD DOMINION:
ODU is coming off its first loss of the 2025 season after a late goal by Liberty’s Ivy Garner was the deciding moment in a 1-0 final score. The last time Old Dominion faced a Top 25 opponent in enemy territory was not too long ago, on the Monarchs opening game against #19 Georgetown Gry Boe Thrysøe scored a late equalizer to share the points.
Thrysøe leads the team with two goals and has one assist for five points. Freshman forward Ashley Economopoulos has played in all four games and has a goal and an assist to her name to land as the team’s second leading scorer. Ashlynn Kulha secured her first Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week award after scoring a diving header in the 2-0 win over Maryland. A junior transfer from St. Peters, Madison Telmer scored ODU’s first goal of the season to open the scoring against GU. Koto Davis and Yuliia Khrystiuk have each chipped in one assist.
Erin Jones has started three games in goal for ODU and has made four saves as well as recording one clean sheet. The senior ranks tied for third in the SBC in goals against average (1.00) and tied for sixth in shutouts per game. Thrysøe ranks 10th in the Sun Belt in points per game (1.25).
ABOUT VT:
The Hokies are 1-1-1 in their last three games and are coming off a 5-1 win at Campbell. VT tied Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia, 1-1 and dropped a home contest 2-1 against Georgetown. In the Preseason ACC Coaches Poll, the Hokies were slated to finish eighth and currently sit in ninth after three games played. VT is led by head coach Charles “Chugger” Adair who is in his 14th season at the helm.
Hannah Pachan leads VT with 10 points from three goals and four assists. Eliana Salama has started five games and is the team’s leading goal scorer with four goals. Natalie Mitchell ranks second on the team in points with nine.
In net for the Hokies is Lauren Hargrove who has started all six of Virginia Tech’s games. In 517 minutes played she has made 21 saves with an 80.8% save percentage and conceded five goals.

ODU heads to Richmond, Virginia to take on the VCU Rams in an in-state derby match on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. The Rams will take on the Midshipmen from Navy on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at home before the Monarchs come to town.
