LAST TIME OUT:

The Monarchs dispatched USM 4-0 in Norfolk two years ago on Saturday, Sept. 30 on Senior Night. Rhea Kijowski opened the scoring in the 62nd minute and Ece Turkoglu notched a brace in nine minutes after scoring her first in the 64th minute and her second in the 73rd. Megan Watts applied the finishing touches from the penalty spot to make it four after Brooke Amos was shown a red card for a challenge in the box.

ABOUT ODU:

Old Dominion will look to get its second SBC win of the season against Southern Miss. The Monarchs will be on the road for the second-straight game after being in South Carolina this past weekend against Coastal Carolina that resulted in a 0-0 draw.

The Monarchs have the best defensive record in the Sun Belt with only six goals allowed through 10 matches. ODU junior defender Ashlynn Kulha was recently named to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week and was the Preseason Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year. Gry Boe-Thrysoe and Kulha both have two goals so far this season. Sophomore forward Brooke Edwards and junior midfielder Riley Mullen have pitched in two and three goals respectively in the past couple of games for the Monarchs. Senior forward Yuliia Khrystiuk has also served four assists in nine games to land her third in the assist tally in the Sun Belt.

Goalkeepers Ellie Goodrich and Erin Jones have almost split the games 50/50 this season. Goodrich has conceded only two goals this season in her five games played and has three clean sheets. Jones has started four games and has one shutout against Maryland.

ABOUT USM:

Southern Miss has had a slow start to their first 10 games of the season so far, posting a record of 2-7-1 and are 1-2 in the Sun Belt. Redshirt senior Ryan Smith leads the Golden Eagles with three goals through 10 matches.

The Golden Eagles have fielded three keepers throughout their first 10 matches, but the most frequent player in net has been junior Maddie Ellis. Ellis has conceded 19 goals through nine matches but has saved almost 70% of the shots she’s faced this season.

UP NEXT:

The Monarchs welcome the Troy Trojans to Norfolk at the ODU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. for a Sun Belt Conference clash.
