Eight Monarchs Named to Athlon Preseason All-Sun Belt Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Football had eight players named to the Athlon Magazine Preseason team, including four first team all-conference selections in offensive lineman Zach Barlev, defensive end Kris Trinidad and linebackers Jason Henderson and Mario Thompson.

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Football had eight players named to the Athlon Magazine Preseason team, including four first team all-conference selections in offensive lineman Zach Barlev, defensive end Kris Trinidad and linebackers Jason Henderson and Mario Thompson.

Barlev started all 12 games last year on the offensive line, including the final nine at left tackle. A transfer from Illinois, he earned third team All-Sun Belt honors last season.

Trinidad registered 45 tackles and led the team with 5.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

Thompson finished third on the team with 65 tackles and second on the team with four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss.

Henderson was an All-American in 2022 and 2023 when he led the country in tackles per game. He played in the season opener in 2024 at South Carolina before redshirting.  Henderson was also named a fourth team pre-season All-American.

Kicker Riley Callaghan earned third team honors. A transfer from Southeastern Louisiana, Callaghan converted 26-of-27 extra points and was 17-for-22 on field goal attempts in 2024 with a long of 46. A native of Ashburn, Virginia, he earned second team all-conference honors.

Quarterback Colton Joseph earned third team honors. Joseph started nine games in 2024, completing 133-of-222 passes for 11 touchdowns, while rushing for 647 yards and finishing fourth in the Sun Belt with 11 rushing touchdowns.

Koa Naotala earned fourth team honors. He led the Monarchs in tackles with 88 last season and was named All-Sun Belt second team. He added 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.

Mario Easterly also was named to the fourth team. He started seven games last season, recording 43 tackles, two pass breakups and a blocked punt.
