ROME, Ga. – Old Dominion men’s tennis downed Troy 4-2 to claim its ticket to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon.

No. 84 brother duo Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk opened the doubles matches on court one with a 6-2 win over Noah Martens and Nicolas Simkin. Troy responded shortly after, with No. 3 Luciano Alcocer and Henrique Costanzi De Brito downing Yanis Moundir and Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan (7-5). For the first point of the match, No. 2 Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak defeated Yeray Andres Pastor and Hiiro Sakamoto (6-4), giving ODU the early lead.

Olivier de Sardan grabbed the first point of the singles matches on court five, besting Costanzi De Brito 6-1, 6-0. No. 1 Rolland De Ravel followed suit with a win over Andres Pastor (6-2, 6-1), though Troy’s Martens would respond with a win over No. 3 Van Schalkwyk (6-4, 6-4). No. 6 Alcocer continued to close the margin with a win over Aryan Saleh in extra sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). For a ticket to the Sun Belt Conference Championship, No. 123 Van Schalkwyk downed Simkin in extra sets (6-7, 6-3, 6-1) on court two. No. 4 Moundir’s match against Sakamoto was suspended (6-2, 5-7, 1-2).

Old Dominion faces off against either Georgia Southern or Coastal Carolina on Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m., where the Monarchs will look to earn their third straight conference title.
