SAN DIEGO, Cal. – No. 66 Old Dominion men’s tennis dropped its contest against No. 7 San Diego by a 4-1 score on Saturday afternoon.
No. 2 Stian Klaassen and Savriyan Danilov began the second day of the Ed Collins Invite by besting ODU’s Aryan Saleh and Thomas Nelson, 6-2. No. 1 Oliver Tarvet and Iiro Vasa continued on to give San Diego its first point of the match after defeating No. 101 brother duo Codie and Connor Van Schalkwyk, suspending Nikhil Niranjan’s and Adrien Berrut’s match against Monarchs Adam Majchrzak and Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan (6-6).
Nelson got things rolling for the Monarchs after defeating Blake Kasday (7-5, 6-0) to open the singles matches. However, No. 4 Berrut followed behind with a win over Olivier de Sardan (6-2, 6-3) and No. 114 Klaassen continued his winning ways by downing No. 3 Majchrzak (6-3, 6-3). With the match just one point away from being San Diego’s, Vasa defeated Codie Van Schalkwyk (7-5, 6-3) to give the Toreros a 2-0 record in the tournament. No. 52 Danilov’s match and No. 5 Neo Niedner’s match against respective opponents No. 101 Connor Van Schalkwyk (6-7, 5-2) and Saleh (6-1, 5-5) were suspended.
Old Dominion moves onto its last day of tournament play tomorrow against Utah at 4:30 p.m. EST in the Hogan Tennis Center.
