PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – No. 57 Old Dominion men’s tennis dropped their contest at No. 28 Penn by a 4-1 score on Sunday afternoon.
Penn began the day with No. 3 Tal Goodman and Parashar Bharadwaj taking the first doubles match against Jean-Karim Olivier De Sardan and Thomas Nelson (6-2), however No. 2 Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak responded with a win over Manfredi Graziani and Shaurya Bhardawaj (6-3). In a battle for the first point of the match, No. 1 brother duo Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk overcame Sanjeev Chundu and Aaron Sandler 7-5 to put ODU on the board.
Graziani put the Quakers on the board with a win over No. 1 Connor Van Schalkwyk (6-3, 6-2) to begin the singles matches, and teammate Sandler gave Penn the lead with a win over No. 5 Aryan Saleh (6-3, 6-2). No. 6 Justin Chung added onto Penn’s score with a win over Nelson (5-6, 6-4, 6-2), and No. 4 Shaurya Bhardawaj would seal the Quaker’s win with a victory over Olivier De Sardan in extra sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-4). Monarchs No. 3 Majchrzak’s and No. 2 Codie Van Schalkwyk’s matches against respective opponents Goodman (6-7 (8-10), 6-2, 4-2) and Chundu (3-6, 6-2, 4-5) were suspended.
Old Dominion travels to California next week for the Ed Collins Invite on Friday, March 7. Times and opponents are TBD.
