NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s tennis came out victorious against No. 54 Princeton by a dominant 4-1 score on Sunday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

“Great performance from our squad today on all fronts,” Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. “Princeton is a very good team and I'm beyond pleased with our effort today. This match took every ounce of energy from us, especially above the shoulders. The way our team handled the pressure, which at some points was immense, was admirable. We are focused on continuing to get better.”

At No. 2 doubles, Ulyana Romanova and Victoria Matasova began the morning with a win over Tigers (remove) Maren Urata and Isabella Chhiv (6-3), though Princeton’s Yichen Zhao and Tsehay Driscoll would grab their own win at No. 3 doubles, Kira Matushkina and Marina Markina (6-4). In a race to earn the team a point, No. 1 Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia rallied to overcome Eva Elbaz and Pearlie Zhang in a tiebreaker set (7-6), putting the Monarchs on the board.

At No. 5 singles, Matasova continued her winning ways as she opened the singles matches with a win over Anna Nguyen (6-4, 6-4). At No. 2 singles,  Matushkina followed by besting Chhiv (6-4, 6-3), though Zhang would grab Princeton’s first point of the match with a win at No. 6 singles against Markina (6-2, 6-4). To seal the match at No. 3 singles, Rasskouskaia fought hard against Zhao to earn ODU the win (6-4, 7-6). No. 1 Johnson’s match against Alice Ferlito (4-6, 6-3, 2-1) and No. 4 Romanova’s match against Elbaz (6-3, 2-6, 5-6) were suspended.
