NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s tennis bested Charlotte in their first outdoor match of the season by a 6-1 score.
“Super proud of our guys today,” Head Coach Dominik Mueller. “It was a short turn around with traveling back from Blacksburg and moving outdoors today. The boys handled that exceptionally well and stepped up big time.”
ODU’s No. 2 duo Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Jean-Karim Olivier De Sardan began the day with a win over Frederic Schlossmann and Ivan Dreycopp (6-3), with No. 1 brother duo Connor and Codie Van Schalkwyk following behind as they defeated Vasco Prata and Matias Iturbe (7-5). Yanis Moundir’s and Thomas Nelson’s match against Arsene Pougault and Brett Gloria would be suspended (6-5) as the Monarchs earned the point.
Charlotte’s No. 3 Iturbe would earn his team’s first point by besting Moundir (6-0, 6-2), though No. 5 Olivier De Sardan would take down Schlossmann (6-3, 6-3) and Aryan Saleh would secure Old Dominion’s victory with a win over Gloria (6-0, 6-3). Connor and Codie van Schalkwyk, who are placed first and fourth respectively, would continue on to down their opponents Prata (3-6, 7-5, 10-6) and Pougault (6-4, 6-3).
