NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team hosts James Madison in another chapter of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Chanticleers this Saturday at the same time.
Both games will have live stats and will be streamed on ESPN+. Andy Mashaw and Dennis Wolff will be on the call for ESPN Radio 94.1.

The Monarchs dropped a 78-63 decision on Feb. 3, 2024 in Harrisonburg. The Dukes had four players score in double-figures with Noah Freidel (18), Raekwon Horton (17), Terrence Edwards Jr. (12), and T.J. Bickerstaff (10). Devin Ceaser led the ODU scorers with 14 points and six rebounds. At the 19:04 mark in the second half JMU tied the game 38-38 and stretched the lead out to 11 by the 12:32 mark after a made layup by Bickerstaff.
Old Dominion dispatched Coastal Carolina 75-59 in Norfolk on Feb. 24, 2024 fueled by Tyrone Williams’ 33 points. Williams made a basket in the paint at 14:14 in the second half to give ODU a 39-38 lead and never trailed after. The Monarchs scored 23 points off turnovers to CCU’s six while ODU pitched in another 23 points off the bench.

Old Dominion is coming off back-to-back losses to App State (62-43) and Georgia Southern (67-63). ODU has a 8-11 overall record and is 4-3 in the Sun Belt. The Monarchs are seventh in the Sun Belt standings, are ranked 328th in NET rankings, 305th in Kenpom, and have a -8.4 BPI. Chartway Arena has been home to the highest attendance in the Sun Belt this season with an average crowd size of 4,820.
Robert Davis Jr. is the Monarch’s leading scorer (15.1 ppg). Davis leads the team in three-point attempts and makes (65-184). The sophomore transfer from UMass averages 3.61 made threes per game which has him tied for third in the nation, while his 65 makes from deep are tied for sixth in the NCAA. In the Sun Belt, Davis ranks sixth in scoring (15.1 ppg), fifth in free throw percentage (80.8%), first in total three-pointers made (65), and is first in minutes per game (35.28).
Sean Durugordon is the team’s second leading scorer, averaging 14.1 ppg. The native of Harlem, New York, is ODU’s leading rebounder averaging 7.9 rpg. His average of 3.89 offensive rebounds per game is seventh best in the nation and ranks first in the Sun Belt. He is the team’s second leading free throw shooter, hitting 78% at the stripe. Durugordon ranks 12th in the Sun Belt in scoring (14.1 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.9 rpg), and ninth in free throw percentage (78%).
Stephaun Walker is the team’s second leading rebounder, grabbing an average of 7.2 per game. His 2.79 offensive rebounds per game average ranks 82nd in the NCAA. The transfer from Robert Morris ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (7.2) and fourth in offensive rebounds (2.79).
Caelum Swanton-Rodger, the junior transfer from Maryland, swats away 1.78 blocks per game, his 31 blocks this season rank 43rd in the nation and second in the Sun Belt. Freshman Jaden Johnson has started all 18 games this season at point guard. He leads the Monarchs in assists per game (4.3) ranking sixth in the Sun Belt. The native of Walker Mill, Maryland is second in the Sun Belt in minutes played (35.08).
ODU scores an average of 67.9 points per game, shoots 39.9% from the floor and 28.3% from behind the arc. They hold a +3.3-rebounding margin and grab 40 per game while dishing out 11.1 assists per game. The Monarchs have swatted away 63 shots this season while swiping 96 steals. In the Sun Belt, ODU ranks first in offensive rebounds per game (14.74) and they have the second-best rebounding offense (40). The Monarchs are the 10th ranked offensive rebounding team in the nation, averaging 14.74 offensive rebounds per game.

James Madison holds a 10-9 overall record and is 3-4 in the Sun Belt. The Dukes are coached by first year head coach Preston Spradlin after being announced as the new JMU coach on March 29, 2024. James Madison is ranked 157th in NET rankings, 161st in Kenpom, and has a 1.6 BPI.
JMU has four players averaging double-figure scoring numbers, Mark Freeman (12.4), Bryce Lindsay (11.9), Elijah Hutchins-Everett (11.6), and Xavier Brown (11.2). Freeman, Hutchins-Everett, Brown, and AJ Smith have started all 19 games for JMU. Lindsay is the team’s sixth man and leads the Dukes with 48 made threes on 42.9% shooting from deep.
The Dukes average 72.7 points per game and have a +2.9-scoring margin. James Madison shoots 43.9% from the field and 34.5% from three. JMU grabs 37.5 rebounds per game and holds a +5.5-rebounding margin. The Dukes dish 12.4 assists per game, swipe six steals, and average 3.2 blocks.

Coastal Carolina has an 8-11 overall record and is 1-6 in the Sun Belt. The Chanticleers are coached by Justin Gray in his first season with the team. CCU is ranked 306th in Net rankings, 301st in Kenpom, and has a -9.3 BPI.
Rasheed Jones leads the Chanticleers in scoring, averaging 13.3 ppg. CCU’s scoring is rounded out by Noah Amenhauser (11.0 ppg) and Jordan Battle (10.9 ppg). Jones leads Coastal Carolina with 45 made threes and shoots 39.5% from behind the arc. Denzel Hines leads the way rebounding the ball, averaging a team high 6.4 rebounds per game. Joshua Meo has started all 19 games for CCU and averages a team high 2.4 assists per game.
CCU averages 69.2 points per game and shoots 44% from the field. The Chanticleers shoot 34% from behind the arc, grab 37.3 rebounds per game, and have a +4.2-rebounding margin. Coastal Carolina has swiped 72 steals and made 29 blocks while dishing 12.1 assists per game.
