NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion’s men’s tennis dropped their contest against P4 opponent, No. 5 UVA, with a 6-1 score.
The Cavaliers took two of three doubles matches, with Dylan Dietrich and Mans Dahlberg defeating brother duo Codie and Connor Van Schalkwyk (6-3), while James Hopper and Keegan Rice bested Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak (6-3). Monarchs Thomas Nelson and Yanis Moundir still went on to beat UVA duo Jangjun Kim and Rafael Jodar with a 6-3 score.
ODU fought hard in the singles matches. Connor Van Schalkwyk and Jean-Karim Olivier De Sardan would both go into a tiebreaker set against their respective opponents, Dietrich (6-7, 6-5, 6-7) and Hopper (2-6, 6-4, 10-6), though both would fall. UVA’s Jodar bested Rolland De Ravel (6-3, 7-6) with teammate Keegan Rice overcoming Codie Van Schalkwyk (6-4, 7-6). Moundir would earn ODU’s first point, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dahlberg, though UVA’s Kim would close out the singles with a win over Aryan Saleh (6-2, 7-6).
The Monarchs will return to the road next weekend as they head to North Carolina to take on another P4 opponent, Duke, on Saturday, Jan. 25.
