Men’s Tennis Runs Past Coastal Carolina, 4-1

CONWAY. S.C. – The 50^th-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team finished off a weekend in the Carolinas on Sunday morning with a 4-1 win at Coastal Carolina.
 
"One and two doubles played big time today and gave us a nice lead. But we didn't capitalize on that early in singles. Once we settled in we did a great job finishing but Coastal pushed us hard to earn it," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
 
Doubles saw the Monarchs win at the top two spots of the lineup for the team point. ODU (16-6, 6-1) started with a quick 6-0 victory by Connor van Schalkwyk and Jakob Cadonau over Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg at the top spot. Coastal Carolina evened doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 3, then Codie van Schalkwyk and Cosme Rolland de Ravel recorded a 6-2 win over Ryuya Ata and Maj Tomac at No. 2 for the 1-0 lead after doubles.
 
In singles, the Monarchs started off slowly down at one point by multiple games in every first set. The light switch was after Coastal Carolina won the first singles point in a victory at No. 6. ODU started the run with Connor van Schalkwyk taking a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1, then Rolland de Ravel put ODU up 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Ata at No. 2.
 
Codie van Schalkwyk pulled a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Tomac to lock up the match.
 
ODU closes out the home schedule on Thursday with UNC Wilmington for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
