ODU Men's Golf to Play in the Sun Belt Championship This Week

MADISON, Miss. – The Old Dominion Men's Golf team is set to play in the Sun Belt Championship this Monday through Thursday, April 22-25 at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi.

This is the second straight year that the Sun Belt is holding its Men's Championship at Annandale GC, which features a par of 72 and is 7,190 total yards.

The tournament will begin with three rounds of stroke play on Monday through Wednesday, with the league's 14 teams teeing off from split tees at 9:30 a.m. ET each day. The top four teams will move on to match play on Thursday. The semifinal matches will tee off at 8:30 a.m. ET and will pit the top seed against the No. 4 seed and the second seed against the third seed. The championship final will then start following the conclusion of the semifinal matches.

ODU's lineup will include Jacob Gunther, Jakob Chicoyne, Kaijun Ma, Jakob Henriksson and Philip Minnehan with Kazuki Yamauchi as an alternate. The Monarchs tallied seven Top 10 finishes and five Top 5 finishes in 2023-24, to include coming in second at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-24 and placing third at both the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic (March 11-12) and the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate (March 29-31). The team then posted its third-straight Top 5 finish at the Irish Creek Collegiate on April 8-9, coming in fourth to wrap up the regular season.

The Monarchs finished 14th at last year's Sun Belt Championship. Ma led the team with a six-over par 222 to tie for 25th. Aleksander Bjorge was next with a 12-over 228 to tie for 48th and Chicoyne turned in a 14-over 230 to tie for 59th.
