LYNCHBURG, Va. – The #42 Old Dominion men's tennis team fell in a nationally-ranked match on Friday dropping a 5-2 decision at #61 Liberty.
"We weren't competitive on too many courts today. Credit to Liberty, they played with passion and it felt like they won 90% of the No Ad points today. But that's not luck, they earned that. We got to get back on track and start playing the big points with more poise," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
In doubles, the Monarchs took the last two matches to claim the team point. After falling 6-4 at No. 1, the duo of Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Yanis Moundir took a 6-4 win over Romeo Hadzimehmedovic and Deji Thomas-Smith at No. 3. The point was clinched by a win from Cosme Rolland de Ravel and Codie van Schalkwyk as they defeated Luis Felipe Miguel and Matija Samardzic 6-4 at No. 2.
Singles saw Moundir put ODU (10-4) up 2-0 after a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Thomas-Smith at No. 4. The Flames extinguished any hope for an ODU win with straight set wins on the remaining matches to take a 5-2 win.
ODU starts Sun Belt Conference play on Wednesday, March 13 at 1 p.m. when they host Troy.
