Men's Tennis Opens Georgia Trip With 4-1 Win Over Georgia State

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team opened a two-match swing in Georgia on Friday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Georgia State.
 
"Thanks to Coach James Wilson for making this match happen and organizing indoor courts. Credit to Georgia State for taking it to us in doubles. They also jumped out to some leads in singles and put us in a spot. But I am glad how we handled that storm and found a way to run away with the match at the end," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
 
ODU (13-4, 3-0) dropped the doubles point for the first time in the last six matches. Georgia State took the first win at No. 1, but Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Codie van Schalkwyk evened the point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Naufal Kamaruzzaman and Diogo Morais. The Panthers took the team point with a 7-6 win at No. 3.
 
The Monarchs rebounded in singles starting with a 6-2, 6-1 win by Maxime Mareschal-Hay at No. 5 and a 6-2, 6-3 win by Rolland de Ravel at No. 2 to regain the lead in the match at 2-1. Connor van Schalkwyk lost his first set at No. 1 but bounced back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Baran Soyler to put ODU up 3-1. Codie van Schalkwyk clinched the match with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over Diogo Morais at No. 4 for the 4-1 win.
 
ODU heads to Statesboro, Georgia on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match with Georgia Southern.
