Men's Tennis Sweeps Brown 7-0 On Darryl Cummings Day

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team rebounded from a Saturday loss to sweep Brown 7-0 on Sunday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Darryl Cummings Day.
 
A special ceremony was held prior to the start of the match honoring the memory of the long-time ODU coach who passed away in December with a banner recognizing "The House That Darryl Built."
 
"A good bounce back win coming after yesterday's over four-hour match with a short turn around. We scheduled like this to prepare for the Blue-Gray Tournament at the end of the month and it helped today," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
 
In doubles, the Monarchs started off with a win by the sixth-ranked duo in the country at No. 1 by Codie van Schalkwyk and Connor van Schalkwyk with a 6-3 victory over Zander Bravo and Alex Finkelstein. ODU clinched the team point with a win at No. 3 as Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Yanis Moundir took a 6-4 win over Tim Dzhurinskiy and Sam Feldman.
 
Moundir finished a perfect weekend with the first singles win in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 that took 41 minutes. Connor van Schalkwyk followed 13 minutes later with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 to push the lead to 3-0.
 
Aryan Saleh took the clincher at No. 5 in a 6-2, 6-1 win that took 65 minutes for a 4-0 lead. Mareschal-Hay put ODU up 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win just three minutes after Saleh's at No. 6. Codie van Schalkwyk gave ODU a 6-0 lead with a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 in 89 minutes, while Cosme Rolland de Ravel finished the sweep with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (11-9) win at No. 3 in a match that took 105 minutes.
 
ODU (5-1) hits the home courts again on Wednesday for a "757 doubleheader" facing Norfolk State at noon and William & Mary at 5 p.m.
