Men's Tennis Makes Splash In ITA Rankings

NORFOLK, Va. -- The first full set of Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings were released on Tuesday afternoon and the Old Dominion men's team has made quite a dent in the lists.
 
As a team, the Monarchs enter the rankings at 47th following their 9-1 start to the season. ODU is off to its best start since 2019 and is 9-1 after ten matches for the fourth time since 2000.
 
In singles, freshman Connor van Schalkwyk debuted at 80th as he is currently on a 12-match winning streak dating back to the fall. Van Schalkwyk recorded his best win of the season last week when he knocked off then 36th-ranked Matisse Bobichon of VCU 6-3, 6-1.
 
In doubles, van Schalkwyk teams with his brother Codie van Schalkwyk and the pair are currently ranked 16th with an 11-4 record this year. They have won their last three matches this spring with wins over Brown, VCU and Penn State.
 
Jakob Cadonau and Cosme Rolland De Ravel are ranked 43rd in the latest poll as the duo are 11-3 and have also won their last three finished matches with victories over William & Mary, VCU and Penn State.
 
ODU will next see action on Friday in Montgomery, Alabama in the 76th annual Blue-Gray Tournament. This will be a loaded field with all eight schools currently ranked in the top 64. Among the tournament field will be Alabama (19th), Michigan State (21st), MTSU (27th), Princeton (31st), ODU (47th), Auburn (48th), Boise State (51st) and Rice (64th).
