NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (3-6) will battle George Washington (7-2) on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. It will be First Responders and Healthcare Appreciation night at Chartway arena.
The game will have live stats and will be streamed on ESPN+. Ted Alexander and Dennis Wolff will be on the call for ESPN Radio 94.1.
Old Dominion trails 8-5 in the all-time series. The last time the two programs met was in the 2003-04 season on December 20. ODU won the game by a score of 72-62 fueled by John Waller’s 23 points and five three-pointers along with Alex Loughton’s 20 points and 11 rebounds.
ABOUT ODU:
Old Dominion is looking to continue trending in the right direction after winning a close game against William & Mary, 88-83 on Monday night. This will be the team’s second consecutive game at home. ODU sits at a 3-6 record this season, having dispatched UMES, Randolph-Macon, and the Tribe.
Devin Ceaser leads the team in scoring with 13.2 ppg. The junior from Waldorf, Maryland averages 22 minutes and provides a spark off the bench for the Monarchs. Robert Davis Jr. leads the team in three-point attempts and makes (26-for-77) and averages 3.25 per game ranking 31st nationally. Caelum Swanton-Rodger is coming off his highest scoring game as a Monarch scoring 10 points in 16 minutes played. The transfer from Maryland has been a deterrent in the paint swatting away 15 blocks this season which puts him within the top 50 in the nation. Sean Durugordon scored an ODU career high 24 points in the win against William & Mary and will look to continue the momentum. The transfer from Siena and native of Harlem, New York has made it a knack of securing offensive boards, averaging 3.78 per game and placing him at 13th in the NCAA.
Mike Jones took over as head coach of the Monarchs from long-time coach Jeff Jones who moved into a mentor role for ODU at the end of the 2023 season. For just the second time in program history, Old Dominion University has hired an alumnus to coach the men's basketball team. Jones played for the Monarchs from 1991-95 and was a part of two tournament championship teams, he returned to ODU after spending this past season as an assistant coach at Maryland.

George Washington is coming off a 81-71 overtime loss to American after winning their previous three games against VMI (77-64), Illinois State (72-64), and Louisiana (83-74). The Revolutionaries carry a record of 7-2 heading into the game against Old Dominion. George Washington is ranked 125 in NCAA Net Ranking, 147 in Kenpom, and has a 0.7 BPI.
Darren Buchanan Jr. leads GWU in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.8 ppg. and 8.4 rpg. Rafael Castro ranks second in rebounding (8.3 rpg.) and is third on the team in scoring (11.0 ppg.) The Revolutionaries have eight players who average over 15 minutes per game.
