NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s basketball team (3-7) will look to tame the Huskies of Northeastern (7-3) on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. It will be Cheer and Spirit Day and will be a doubleheader with ODU women’s basketball, who is hosting East Carolina at 3:30 p.m. in the Anne Donovan Classic.

The game will have live stats Ted Alexander and Dennis Wolff will be on the call for ESPN Radio 94.1. Fans can also tune in to ESPN+ with Scott Jackson and Billy Mann commentating the game.

Old Dominion leads the all-time series against Northeastern, 10-6. The last game between the two programs was during the 2023-24 season when ODU fell to the Huskies in Boston, 81-68 on Dec. 2. Luka Sakota led the way for the home team scoring a team high 18 points and went 11-12 from the stripe. Tyrone Williams recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for ODU.

ABOUT ODU:

Old Dominion is looking to bounce back after dropping a close game against George Washington, 78-70 on Dec. 7 at Chartway Arena. Guards Devin Ceaser and Jaden Johnson combined for 32 points on 11-24 shooting (46%) despite the loss. The game against Northeastern will be the last of a three game homestand with the Monarchs sitting at 1-1 thanks to a win against William & Mary (88-83). ODU will open Sun Belt Conference play on the road when they travel to Monroe, Louisiana to take on ULM on Dec. 21.

Devin Ceaser leads the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg. The junior from Waldorf, Maryland averages 22 minutes and provides a spark off the bench for the Monarchs. Robert Davis Jr. leads the team in three-point attempts and makes, going 28-for-81 (34.6%) and averaging 3.11 per game ranking 42nd nationally. Caelum Swanton-Rodger, a transfer from Maryland, has been a deterrent in the paint, swatting away 17 blocks this season which puts him within the top 50 in the nation. Sean Durugordon, a transfer from Siena and native of Harlem, New York, is the team's second leading scorer (12.4 ppg) and has made a knack of securing offensive boards, averaging 3.90 per game and placing him at 10th in the NCAA. Freshman Jaden Johnson has started every game so far this season and averages 32 minutes per game. The native of Walker Mill, Maryland. leads the team with 33 assists and is the team’s fourth leading scorer (9.1 ppg).

Mike Jones took over as head coach of the Monarchs from long-time coach Jeff Jones who moved into a mentor role for ODU at the end of the 2023 season. For just the second time in program history, Old Dominion University has hired an alumnus to coach the men's basketball team. Jones played for the Monarchs from 1991-95 and was a part of two tournament championship teams, he returned to ODU after spending this past season as an assistant coach at Maryland.

ABOUT NU:

Northeastern is coming off a 78-75 victory against Colgate on Dec. 8. The Huskies are 2-2 in their last four games with wins over previously mentioned Colgate and La Salle (82-68). NU had back-to-back losses against CSU Bakersfield (68-60) and Vermont (68-64). Northeastern ranks 131st in NCAA Net Ranking, 150th in Kenpom, and has a 0.8 BPI.

Rashad King leads the Huskies in scoring, averaging 17.2 ppg. Harold Woods is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.9 rpg as well as the team’s second leading scorer (15.1 ppg.). Northeastern is averaging 71.1 points per game while allowing opposing teams to score 66.1 ppg.

ODU will travel to Monroe, Louisiana to take on ULM at 3 p.m. on Dec. 21st before heading back to Norfolk to host Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m. on Dec. 28th.
